The Discworld Convention 2012 – We felt a bit like Vimes in Guards! Guards! “A sense of terrifying admiration overcame him.” This was the organisers for this fantastic event. The best one ever, we were told...well done to all!
We arrived off our flight from soggy Belfast to bright shinny Birmingham at 7.45pm and were promptly in front of our first audience at 8.15pm in the The Odium, presenting our new demo game ‘Clacks’ with David playing the part of ‘Can’t quite Reacher Gilt’. Thank you to the lovely people of the Hilton Metropole who kept the door locked for 15 minutes.
The rest of our weekend was mostly spent letting fans play our revised 2012 Guards! Guards! boardgame and demos of Clacks. Once again everyone loved the way The Luggage can now chase away a Dragon and certain individuals liked to boast about beating each other at Clacks...you know who you are...
On a serious note, thank you to everyone who made lovely comments about Clacks and an even bigger thank you to Mike and particularly his wife Ann and Shevaun Frazier for selling games for us the whole weekend.
We also ran two ‘Live run around the Convention’ games of Guards! Guards! with prizes of Discworld Ales. The Masquerade was awesome. So many characters, wonderful costumes and fun! We especially liked Angua’s plate armour and chain mail that she made herself on an anvil and shipped in from Austria.
The final highlight for us was the video presentations of The Watch & Good Omens...whaao! If you missed it, you shoulda bin there...double whaao! and as for plans to build Ankh-Morpork.... Craazy coool!
Oh, and thanks Rob for our bedtime story...bottom line a simply superb magical weekend.
Recently we ran another very special competition, to win a 1st edition version of our game together with a signed hologram certificate by Sir Terry via the Following the Nerd website. The delighted winner was Richard Salmon from Epsom. Congrats!
This week with Terry & Rob of to the US we just had to go somewhere too; so we are off to Essen Game Fair, Germany with copies of the 2012 reprint of Guards! Guards! to play and sell. We are also bringing a few special pre-production copies of our new simple strategy (non-Discworld) game too (Codinca) and we will be based at Booth 7-20 in Hall 7 beside the Galeria. Oh, and we will also have a limited number of the much sought after Guards! Guards! t-shirts to sell on a trial basis. Maybe some of you can call and say hello?
The following weekend copies of our game will be on sale through Wee Gamers at Gaelcon.
But if you can’t make it to either of those events, copies of the 2012 reprint can be shipped all around the world if purchased from our website (now by debit & credit card) plus you get a free limited edition bookmark illustrated by Stephen Player.
